Victorinox SwissTool vs. Leatherman Wave: Best Multi Tool Comparison

If you are a person who loves to be prepared for just about any situation that one could possibly face while out of the house or if you’re a travelling work person wanting flexible access to a number of tools on the go, a good multi tool is a must-have.

The best multi tool brands nowadays are very compact, affordable, and have so many tools included that for many people, they could be a serious replacement for their toolbox.

Out of the hundreds of models on the market, the Victorinox SwissTool and the Leatherman Wave are among the most popular. If you’re having doubts about which one to choose, this article will help you out!

1. Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X

Bild

From the very first look, there is no doubt that the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X is a serious multi tool set. Constructed from bare stainless steel, the look of it alone gives you the sense of a durable, capable, and reliable instrument.

The 22 different tools and functions are arranged on the outside and can be easily accessed. It is only the built-in pliers wire cutter that will require you to open it up. This best rated multi tool has everything from scissors, screwdrivers (available in three different sizes), bottle and can openers up to a metal saw.

This is the first time ever that we have seen a multi tool featuring a metal saw and we are glad to say that Victorinox debuted this novel feature well. The saw worked quite well with small steel items and can be useful for the more artistically-inclined people among us who would love to have one of these for sculpting.

The multi tool also features a file, if you need to fine-tune the edges after cutting.

The only thing that’s stopping us from recommending this to you as an Everyday Carry (EDC) is that it is quite heavy weighing a staggering 7.4 ounces.

2. Leatherman Wave+

If Leatherman, one of the most reputable multi tool brands on the market said that the Wave+ is their bestseller then you know that you’re in for something good with this product.

From our tests, the Wave+ exceeded virtually all expectations on grounds of durability, reliability, and ease of use. There’s no doubt that it is a high quality and capable multi tool.

It’s packed with all of the tools and functions you would probably ever need. There is a pair of pliers, scissors, knife blades, two saws, bottle and can openers, along with a huge variety of screwdrivers. Leatherman’s proprietary bit driver is also compatible with virtually every driver bit that you can find (although the ¼” bit is not quite compatible).

The Wave+ is a stainless steel multi tool that has clearly been thoughtfully designed and carefully assembled. The pivots are solid, the locks are well-done and quite reliable, the blades are kept secured while the pliers are being used. The quality of the build is apparent and we have no comments to give on this point.

It seems like aside from the fiddly nature of the ¼” driver bit, the Leatherman Wave+ feels like an essential purchase. Especially when it starts at a rather affordable price.

But unfortunately, there is a catch. If you think that the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X’s 7.4 ounces weight is already uncomfortable, then you would probably be turned off also by this massive multi tool. Weighing 8.5 ounces by itself and 9.5 ounces when it is in its case, you will have a hard time carrying this top multi tool around.

Conclusion

Overall, if you prefer an affordable multi tool, go for the Wave+. If you prefer Victorinox’s experience at crafting multi tools and a bit lighter weight, the SwissTool is not a shabby option

Hi,

in welcher Version passiert das und in welchem Formular?

Ich kann das gerade auf die Schnelle in der Version 4.0.6 nicht nachvollziehen.

Viele Grüße
