Update

This page describes the steps required to update Admidio to a new version.

When updating Admidio version 3 or 4 to the current version 5, existing layout customizations cannot be transferred. Update to the default theme and check out the new configuration options for layout customizations in the settings.

- If you use plugins, first check whether all plugins are also available for the new version.

  1. Create a backup of the database (The database stores all your user data, role permissions, role memberships, and much more).
  2. To be on the safe side, you should create a backup of the Admidio folder structure in the next step.
  3. Download Admidio from our website to your computer and unzip the file using a suitable program.
  4. Now delete all directories except adm_my_files and adm_plugins on your Admidio web space. If you have made your own adjustments to the theme files, you should also not delete the themes folder.

- Copy all folders, including all files and subfolders, as well as the index.php file from your computer to your web space in the Admidio main directory from which you removed the folders before.

  1. The plugins in the adm_plugins folder must also be replaced. Please refer to our plugin documentation, especially if you have made your own settings in the config.php files of the plugins.
  2. If you are updating within version 5 and have made adjustments to the theme files in the themes folder in the past, you must update the theme in the next step.

- If you have not made any changes to our standard themes, you can simply delete the themes folder and upload the theme folder of the new version.

  1. If you have made changes to a few files, you can simply update the unchanged files and, if necessary, specifically adjust your customized files using our change history for themes to make them compatible with the new version.
  2. If you created a backup in step 1, you can now open Admidio in your browser at ‘'www.example.org/admidio/’' and you will be redirected to the update page.

If the update page does not open automatically, you can access it directly via the following URL: ‘'www.example.org/admidio/install/update.php’'.
  3. The following page will now appear, where you must confirm the update again. If the database has already been updated, this will be indicated accordingly. To prevent anyone else from performing the update, you must enter the login details of a webmaster. Then click on Update database and the database will be updated to the new version. Wait with further actions in the browser until the confirmation appears that the update has been successfully completed. This can take up to 4 minutes.

:!: If the update has failed, you can restore your backup and, after clarifying the cause, restart the update or continue using the previous version for the time being. In the event of more serious problems or if you do not have a backup, it is still possible to restore your previous version.

Admidio has now been successfully updated and you can now work with the new version.

Good luck!
